Pool Safety – Brisbane Pools Protection

Pool Safety – Brisbane Pools Protection

Swimming pools should be fun. However, drowning is one of the leading causes of death in Brisbane for children under the age of five years old. Supervising young children, teaching them to swim and having effective pool fencing can save lives.

Brisbane Pools need proper protection.

Here are some tips to help you improve the safety of your pool.

Pool safety basics – what you need to do:

  • Register your pool Brisbane pools need to be registered. If you have not registered your pool, talk to your pool provider right away.
  • Make sure your pool barrier complies with the lawEvery private swimming pool or spa with a water depth of more than 300 mm must have a childproof safety barrier. Barriers are required for:
  • in-ground, above-ground and indoor swimming pools
  • inflatable or relocatable pools
  • jacuzzis, hot tubs and spas.

You will need a building permit before installing a barrier.

  • Get a pool safety certificate – If you need a pool safety certificate, you must engage a licensed pool safety inspector to arrange an inspection.
  • Set rules for use of your pool – Brisbane pools with the best safety records always have set usage rules.

Public Brisbane pools –

Even at a supervised public pool, never take your eyes off children. Toddlers, in particular, have a natural attraction to water, and their sense of danger is under-developed. A lack of direct supervision by a parent or carer is believed to be a contributing factor in more than two-thirds of drowning deaths at public pools.

  • Follow the lifeguards’ directions and pool rules. Lifeguards are not babysitters – you are responsible for supervising your child.
  • Be aware of your child but also be aware of others around them if it is crowded.
  • Do not go out of your depth when in the water with your child unless you are a strong swimmer.
  • Environ Pools
